The Asian Weekly Team and Sponsors Spreading Pre-Eid Joys

On July 28, The Asian Weekly team along with generous sponsors like Mjengo Ltd, Kapa Oil Refineries, Athi River Steel, Broadway Bakeries, Canon Chemicals and Kibos Sugar Ltd donated various items of necessities to two homes, one Mama Fauzia’s Children’s Home and the Mji Wa Huruma Home for the aged.

The donation activity, done in the month of Ramadhan was to spread cheers among the beneficiaries ahead of the festival of Eid-Ul-Fitr.

Sister Adila Malik of Mama Fauzia’s home expressed her joy at receiving a hearty donation of 200kgs of maize meal, 100kg of wheat flour, 200 kgs of rice, 100 kgs of sugar, petroleum jelly and 50 packets of bread, saying, “This is fantastic. You have no idea how much this donation will help us sustain the children living here. It is enough to last us for months.”

The children’s home houses orphans and abandoned children, providing them with education and Islamic knowledge till the time they are independent enough to face the world. Some of who went on to earn scholarships to study and live in the States, Turkey among other places. She said, “We are very particular about girls. This is an Islamic institution, so we don’t phase them away upon turning 18 years. Some whose relatives are discovered eventually go back, but mostly, we organize for sponsors who support them in their lives ahead.”

After the presentation of the donation, a prayer was recited by a resident Maalim in appreciation of the donation.

The team then went to Mji Wa Huruma home for the aged where they were welcomed by Margaret Ndichu, the Administrator of the home, who explained that the home consisted of 48 people (28 men and 20 women), who were brought by the Nairobi City Council and the city Askaris. It was started in 1965 by the City Council of Nairobi by the then mayor of Nairobi, Honourable Charles Rubia. The same amount of donation was made to the aged home.

In his address, John Gitahi, the Sales Executive of The Asian Weekly commended the great work that Ndichu and her team were doing for the aged, thanked them for receiving the donation on behalf of all the sponsors of this initiative of The Asian Weekly and promised to return in future with more.
