More often than not, we are mindful about taking care of our physical bodies by exercising, eating clean and drinking lots of water. How about taking care of our mental health? If you have been putting your physical body in check, that’s absolutely great. However, we also need to put focus on our mental health for wholesome living.

Check out these tips that can help you boost your mental health:

  • Track gratitude and achievements using a journal. Jot down 3 things you are grateful for and 3 things you were able to accomplish each week. Be consistent at it; as you get better you’ll be encouraged to achieve more as you appreciate what you already have in your life. 
  • Work on your strengths. We all have that one thing we are good at. Discover it; practice it to build self-confidence.
  • Experiment: Do not be afraid to try something new. It could be a recipe, writing a poem, painting or even executing a new project in your house. It could be as simple as  rearranging your living room. Try something outside your comfort zone to make room for adventure and excitement in your life. The results will surprise you! 
  • Show love to the people in your life. Close, quality relationships are key for a happy, healthy life. Be kind and forgive easily. Let them know that you appreciate them and are grateful for the impact they bring to your life.
  • Take the first step. Think of something in your life you want to improve, and figure out what you can do to take a step in the right direction. Procrastination is the thief of time.
  • Speak Out. If you have a challenge or something stressing you, find a trustworthy person to talk to. Talking helps in easing of the burdening thoughts that are weighing you down.
  • Take time to laugh. Hang out with a funny friend, watch a comedy show or check out memes or funny videos. Laughter helps reduce anxiety.
  • Go off the grid. Put aside your smartphone for at least 2 hours and disconnect from constant alerts and other social media interruptions. Spend time doing a fun activity with someone face to face. It is a good way of connecting.
  • Practice forgiveness. Forgive yourself for the bad decisions you have made. Forgive those who have wronged you. People who forgive have better health and report being more satisfied with their lives. “To forgive is to set a prisoner free and to discover the prisoner was you”  – Lewis B Smedes
